Assistant Professor, Tai Melcher, will receive the Association for Women in Mathematics (AWM) Service Award at a ceremony in January. This award recognizes individuals for helping to promote and support women in mathematics through exceptional voluntary service to the Association for Women in Mathematics. Tai was cited both for her service to the AWM as a PI on a successful NSF grant, and for her involvement in the organization of AWM activities at the USASEF festival.
Associate Professor David Sherman has won the 2013 Cory Family Teaching Award. This is a new prize presented annually to two untenured tenure-track professors in the College of Arts and Sciences, recognizing excellence in undergraduate instruction.

Professor Andrei Rapinchuk and Associate Professor Mike Hill have been invited to speak at the International Congress of Mathematicians (ICM) in Seoul, Korea, August 2014. Andrei Rapinchuk will speak on algebra and Mike Hill on topology.
StatStats.org has included Professor Irena Lasiecka in their list of the Top 26 Women Professors in Virginia. The goal of the top professors list is to highlight post-secondary educators who have been awarded recently for excellence in the classroom, on campus, and/or in the community. We found many professors who fit the bill, but focused on those recognized within the past 12 months.
