REU Number Theory Lectures

The 2023 UVa REU Number Theory lecture series is sponsored by Jane Street. The series is open to the public, and we will share recordings with permission. The speakers are Lillian Pierce, Terry Tao, Andrei Okounkov, Ken Ribet, James Maynard, Melanie Matchett Wood, Jennifer Balakrishnan.

  • June 8th: Lillian Pierce (Duke) - “The polynomial sieve: beyond separation of variables”
  • June 15th: Terry Tao (UCLA) - “Almost all Collatz orbits attain almost bounded values”
  • June 15th: Andrei Okounkov (UC Berkeley) - “Partitions, q-series, and multiple q-zeta values”
  • June 22nd: Ken Ribet (UC Berkeley) - “Torsion Points on Abelian Varieties over abelian extension of Q”
  • June 22nd: James Maynard (Oxford) - “Patterns in Primes”
  • June 29th: Melanie Matchett Wood (Harvard) - “Conjectures for class groups when there are roots of unity”
  • July 6th: Jennifer Balakrishnan (Boston University) - “Two perspectives on the Birch and Swinnerton-Dyer Conjecture”
